This morning, January 6, Yossi Cohen replaced Tamir Pardo as head of the Mossad, one of the most important, influential and sought-after posts in the Israeli government, and without doubt the most clandestine and intriguing of all.

So who is Israel’s new mega-spy, where does he come from and how did he win the close-fought race with the two other candidates and become Prime Minister Netanyahu’s confidant? What are the properties required of a person to run such an organization, and how can one sums up the performance of Tamir Pardo, who took the job after his predecessor, Meir Dagan had headed the organization for eight turbulent and controversial years?
