Our Men in Damascus – Spying on Assad’s WMD Arsenal

As evidence of the use of Chemical Weapons by the Syrian regime are gradually being revealed to the public, I thought it would be appropriate to shed some light on the ongoing operations by Israel – the Syrian army’s chief enemy until the rebellion broke out – to detect, intercept and sabotage the Assads’ acquisition of  WMD.

This campaign to deny a hostile neighbour of WMD has taken place over the course of 40 years, and unfortunately was largely unsuccessful when it comes to Chemical Weapons. However, other operations were successful – the crown jewel the campaign being the complete distraction of the Nuclear Reactor built by Bashar Assad in 2007.

My investigative story about Israel spying efforts, and American-Israeli cooperation in procurement and analysis of intelligence coming out of Syria these days, was published today by Foreign Policy Magazine online (and you may read it here).
